Monday, March 16

Hello Grade Six Students and Families of Bridlewood School,

Please know that we care for you and are thinking of you during this historic time with school being cancelled. We need to think about community and how we can take care of each other.

Throughout grade 6, we have learned the importance of using our voices in positive ways to make a difference.  Last week at Outdoor School, you were all an amazing support for each other and showed that kindness is powerful and can go a long way.  Please remember at this time to take care of each other, love one another, have hope, keep positive, show kindness, be compassionate, spend time with your family, have peace, remember to laugh, have conversations, read, get outside and be active.

Though many families and friends may be unable to physically get together, let’s try to think of ways that we can continue to spread kindness and cheer at this difficult time.  For example, you could draw and colour some pictures of something that brings happiness to you and your family to post in your front window. We hope this kindness and joy will spread and give strength when it is most needed.

As we are unsure at this time what is next, please stay tuned for updates that will be sent as more information becomes available.

Ms. Steeves

Tuesday, March 3

Our day started in small groups using the PAT functional writing rubric.  Each group was given four articles written by different students using the information we used yesterday to write our articles.  Students used the rubrics to assign a mark in the areas of Content and Content Management.  We then looked to see how close our marks were to the actual marks that had been given to the students.  We were pretty close!  Later, students marked their own articles using the rubric.

We had our second session with Evergreen Theatre.  Today we put the majority of our show together. We decided what each of the small groups will be sharing and decided basically what their lines will be.  Aaron will put this all together tonight.

In Science, we began to learn about constellations.

We also did a little more reading about the Iroquois.

Monday, March 2

Our residency with Evergreen Theatre started today.  We had an early music time as we had an assembly as a whole school to learn more about the week.  We had our first session with Aaron.  We did a quick warm-up game to help him get to know us and our names.  From there, we brainstormed ideas for our portion of the show.  It was great to see everyone contributing their ideas.

We reviewed the Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) functional writing rubric.  This is what will be used to mark our newspapers when we write our first PAT in May.  The other tests will be in June.  We did a practice news article using given information, just like we will have when we write in May.

Our day finished with beginning to paint our ODS name tags.  One side contains our name, and the other side has the nature names that we have chosen.

A letter with more information about ODS is coming home today.  Please read this carefully as it contains information about luggage drop off at the school on Monday as well as information about medication.
