Tuesday, December 10

Our morning work task today was:
Would you rather find out that you parents are secret spies or aliens?  Support your choice in a paragraph with specific details.

Students felt that as a class our writing had improved since yesterday as most of us were including opening sentences, transition words and closing sentences.

We found that 14 people would rather have secret spies for parents and 7 would like parents to have parents that were aliens.  This led to a discussion of ratio which we will be learning about in the new year.

We had time today to continue our writing based on the book, "Somewhere in the World Today."  We discussed the difference between editing and revising.

As a class, we revised what we had written together yesterday.  Next, it was our turn to revise our own work.

In math, we were looking at how we could graph a pattern.  Students were creating tables t represent increasing patterns made with tiles.  Then they created graphs of the information and graphed the information in an input/output table.  The last step, was to record the information on a graph in an input/output table.

Our day finished with some time to review for our science assessment tomorrow.

Reminders:

  • Please return your blue assessment folder if you haven't already done so
  • Evidence and Investigation assessment tomorrow
  • Bring in items in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association (see post from yesterday for details)
  • We are also collecting food items for the Mayor's Food Drive.
