Monday, December 9

Our morning work task today was:
Would you rather have a pet that was a giant hamster or a tiny elephant?  Support your choice in a paragraph with specific details.

We shared our paragraphs with the class and discussed what made a good paragraph.  We brainstormed some opening sentences we could use as many students made a choice and began to list their reasons in their first sentence.

A planning tool we could use for our paragraphs is:

What?
Why?
Why?
Why?

What was that again?

In math, we continued our work with plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.  Today we also needed to identify the coordinates of points that were plotted on a grid already.

We had time to continue on with our Evidence and Investigation study page that we started last week in preparation for our test on Wednesday.

We read the story, "Somewhere in the World Right Now".  It contains descriptions of what someone could be doing in the world right now.  For example, "Somewhere night has fallen.  Clouds cushion the moon as it climbs across the sky.  An alligator sleeps in an inky swamp beneath a tapestry of stars."  We then began to write our own "Somewhere in the World" stories.

Our day finished with buddies.

Reminders:
Please return your blue assessment folder
